Rammstein and Tokio Hotel are like two different genres. One metal/rock and the other pop rock, so let's break it down.

For similar to Rammstein. Megaherz is a little old, there's also Oomph! (they sing in German) but i prefer Boehse Onklez. They remind me a lot of Metallica. To keep in mind also some people have a slight grudge against them for their earlier musik. It was a bit rechts radikal (a little skinheadish) As far a gitarr instrumentals. Two really popular bands that have more a little of a late 80's 90's punk theme that merges with Rock, would be Die Aertze and Toten Hosen. I highly recommend this. What alot of people don't realize is that the Scorpions are actually from Germany. They're as you know 80's metal. A new band that could hands down be confused with Rammstein would be In Extremo

For the Tokio Hotel. A good local German band would be Defect Confusion you'll find them on myspace. VITO is also a good one for this emo trip.

For more brand name

-Guano Apes (has always been a classic),

-my nieces like Slibermond ( a little too popyish for me and slightly emo) and Wir sind Helden ( sounds like a mix between Nena...yes, nena the 99 Luft ballons and No doubt). The band Juli is also a tagg along in this group.

- DONOTS- very much like NOFX and Greenday. It's definitely punk. Though a little softer punk there is Sport Freunde Stiller which sounds like the more recent Greenday and Blink 182.

Fettes Brott- 90's survival (how I have no clue) People like them. They're kind of more like the Bestie boys in my opinion. They're more hip hopish then rock, but they're consider a rock band.

Though not German you might like :

-Sunrise Ave (from Finnland) is pretty good. Try listening to fairy tale gone bad.
-The Rasmus (also Finnland)

Juli, silbermond and zweitfrau are all similar to each other however, zweitfrau are austrian i think.
