Tons of things to do! Just walking around through this very picturesque city should be fun, walk across the Marienplatz to hear the Glockenspiel, walk around the backalleys, maybe stop at Dallmayrs, a famous coffee and food place, go to have lunch at a very munich type of place - I always love returning to the Weisses Bräuhaus just a hop and a skip away from the Marienplatz! Very german food, yummy and excellent beer, lots of locals, just what you´ll want to absorbe some culture and food :-D
There are many great museums, my favorite being the Deutsches Museum where I think I could spend an entire week without getting bored... smile..
I was there on a project tour for the dept. of physics and it was great!!! From simple stuff to seeing the Faraday Cage in action - awesome! Lots of hands on stuff.

Then there´s the Pinakothek where they have some of the greatest paintings ever made, quality wise not so far beyond the Louvre in Paris! You can choose between what type of art you´d like to see because there are different ones and they just opened a new one.

And there is always a beergarden just around the corner for hydrating yourself :-D
I like the one in the Englischer Garten by the chinese tower, on the way there your kids (if you have any) can run around and loose extra energy and discover stuff.. smile.
Just like the Olympic Park from 1972 :-D

Well, munich is always a winner and if you have tons of time you can even take a quick drive down to the Alps, Chiemsee, Garmisch, wherever..
aaah.. I think I´m jealous now that you´re going and I´m not .. lol.. hope you have fun!!! |

I've heard good things about the museums in the city and the Residenz. Walking along the river is nice when the weather is good. The city center is quite attractive, just to walk around and take in the culture. Munich has great food! I can't recommend it enough. The Englisher Garten is very relaxing, but if you have very little in the city, you might want to pass it by. Very cool otherwise.
Munich (München) is also a great starting point for day-trips to smaller cities, like Passau, Innsbruck, Austria, and the castles built by Ludwig II of Bavaria. Most of those are only a few hours away by train or tour bus, in case of the castles. |
