What you won’t find in travel books:

> Erfurt, Germany – a thousand percent cheaper than Munich and the largest, untouched “Altstadt” (Old Towne) I have ever seen in a big, German city.
> The Spree Forest (Spreewald) – like a rural Venice. People still go to school in boats here and they speak a language called “Sorbisch,” not German. They have legends of little ferries at night, called “Seelichter.” And the Shnapps and Rotbier (red beer) is a-w-e-s-o-m-e. Der Spreewald is in Brandenburg.
> Sächsische Schweiz Nationalpark – accesible via an S-Bahn train from Dresden. Real awesome landscape. Cheap as hell.

Not so hidden treasures:

> Bacharach on the central Rhine
> Rothenberg ob der Tauber in Bavaria
> Nightlife in DĂĽsseldorf (you are guaranteed to hurl chunks at least once)
