Depends what you wanna do. Cologne's got a lot to offer already, Bonn, the ex-capital is nice as well and can be a good day-trip. There are lots of cultural events (concerts from classic to pop/rock) with more or less famous artist, there are theatres and opera houses (Cologne currently hosts the Queen-Musical "We will rock you" between the dome and the river Rhine). Fullday or halfday boat trips on the rhine are always worth going and if you wanna have fun you visit the "Phantasialand", a Fantasy-Park in Brühl near Cologne.
Have fun, it's a really nice area! |

I was in Cologne for 4 days this summer and i must say i found the Cathedral to be the only place of true interest in the city. The gestapo headquarters was my last hope and that was a bit disappointing but ok. In terms of visiting places near Cologne i would get the train to Remagen which is about 30 minutes from Cologne on the IC. It's a lovely little town with plenty of history, especially if u know your WW2 history. There's a museum where the old Hudendorf(right spelling?) bridge used to be which is worth seeing. There's a huge amount of history attached to the area and it's a fine place to hang around if u dont wanna meet too many tourists... i enjoyed my time there... a few hours is all you need really but i would recommend it.... |
