You must know that I'm from the rather left political wing, and strongly opposed to death punishment, which has been illegal in Germany and Austria for a while. So I call him the "exterminator", and many people in Germany and Austria found it absolutely disgusting and irresponsible that he signed and confirmed death sentences in California.
He may govern California well in all other aspects (which I can't judge, I don't live there and know little about California's local politics, except some rumble about a public vote for or against gay marriage, which we Germans also have been struggling about for years, with no end in sight), but by not opposing the death penalty, in my opinion, he has lost European citizen status, and if he should ever return to Europe, I'd find it fair that he'd be accused of murder. |
