What do Germans wear clothing wise? |
What are some popular clothing stores in Germany?
I would like to see what people wear in Germany, because i am moving there in June and would like to dress appropriately! I'm especially looking for teenage clothing, seeing as i am 17 and will be spending my senior year there! |

I don't think there is a massive difference in clothing, however I think there is a bit more variety from the hoodie, t-shirt, jeans combination and I don't think some brands that seem to be favourites with US teenagers (judging by the style forums) ie. Abercrombie, American Eagle, Hollister and Aeropostale are really widely on sale.
I wouldn't worry about it too much but if you want to do a little research, have a look on these German style forums, they do 'stylediaries' every month showcasing what people have worn throughout the month. Some people on there will be a little older than you though, so take that into account:
http://www2.glamour.de/glamour/glamunity/forum/viewtopic.php?t=163916&start=0
http://www.bym.de/forum/showthread.html?t=325068
Or have a browse around these forums, you can practice your German ;)
Also have a look on the original stylediary site and search by country:
http://mystylediary.stylehive.com/Search/UsersByCountry.aspx?Country=DE
Usually they list age so that should hopefully give you some ideas as well.
It's been a few years since I was a teenager but back then some shops around popular with teenagers were
Pimkie (usually on the cheap side):

Orsay (not sure that's the website, looks a bit too grown up for what I remember):

New Yorker:

Clockhouse @ C&A:

Esprit:

Then there is obviously H&M and as mentioned before Mango and Miss Sixty but the last two tend to be more expensive. |

Miss Sixty, Mango, H&M, etc. They wear pretty much the same things we do. I think the only difference is here in the states we wear sneakers more than they do, so make sure you have a nice pair of shoes as well. |

Have lived in Germany since 1971 - graduated here in 1973 :-) Will you be on an exchange program, as in: attending a German school? Teenagers wear just about what American teenagers do - so, don't worry and enjoy your stay abroad!! |

You should wear lederhosen! You would be immediately accepted by the German people if you could sport a pair of their traditional clothes.
Jokes aside, if you know what to wear in the U.S., you'll know what to wear there.
Have fun in Germany! |
