Typically the same as what Americans wear. Boots worn outside the pants are surprisingly not uncommon (I love this style and I was worried it would look weird in Germany, but it doesn't). Rain boots however are considered "low" and usually only people that work outdoors wear them.
Don't pack many shirts with English logos such as a school shirt, unless you really want to broadcast you are from America.
You should wear layers because it is surely very cold outside, but many places keep the inside of their building very warm.

I'm in Germany at the moment. If you're coming to Germany, you need to remember it's cold. Like at the moment there is snow on the ground, and it gets down to -8 and -9°C (no idea what °F it would be.) Wear layers.
I brought over a whole suitcase full of polyprop singlets, but do not do that, i've used maybe one. I usually wear a t-shirt, a light jersey, (mine's made of merino wool, but i don't know if you can get that, mine's from New Zealand), a polar fleece or woolen jersey, and when I go outside a jacket, scarf and gloves. Jeans are fine, although sometimes a little cold if you're out too long.
Have fun on your travels! Message me if you have any questions that you think i could answer for you (without spending points), glad to help.

some of us really wear loads of stuff from h&m, so it looks a little punk, especially like 14 year olds do...
otherwise, we dont go to school with sweatshirts and miniskirts (together) or pajamas (dont wear them at school! but we dont have any dresscodes).
but when ur comin here, just wear whatever u want to, i dont think that pple would point on you when u wear something extraordinary (well, in small towns...i guess, they would look a little surprised). have fun over here, tho!
