What do you Europeans think of us fat Americans?

Well, as an American living in Germany for the last 19 years(non military so No access to the shopping or other goodies of the American Way of Life) I have heard all kinds of comments.
What I think? I visit the US once a year, maybe twice if my Mother does not drive me too crazy. Are Americans Fat? Yes. In Connecticut you go shopping for food at the supermarket. At the most you may have to walk 400 hundred feet from where you parked your car to get into the store. The shopping carts are near the door. You buy your food in packages that are sometimes so big a village in Africa could live a week on them. At the checkout somebody bags your food and puts it back in the wagon. You wheel the wagon to your car and you may have to work a bit to put the bags in your trunk, or your SUV that can transport a basketball team. Your shopping cart is left in the parking lot. You then drive home, push a button to open your garage door. You drive your car in to the garage, and then work again to carry those bags into the kitchen. At the Mall I notice every body is eating, muffins, cookies, ice cream, tacos, whatever you can hold in your hand while walking around. My other proof that Americans are fat? When I stand next to my family for the Christmas picture - out of 18 people, 3 are not fat. My sister-inlaw(healthy food, does not eat meat, etc.), my nephew(15 any very active in sports) and myself(49, 181lbs, 33 inch waist). I am not talking 10 pounds overweight, I am talking about 20 pounds or more. Oh yes, photography is one of my hobbies. I took some pictures of people walking thru the Frankfurt Zeil(big walking plaza in the center of Frankfurt), An American looking at the photo asked me if Germans get enough to eat because they looked so thin? Oh we have fat people in Germany, but when compared to America the land of convenience Europeans are thin. Oh I know the flag waiving Americans will answer differently and the persons with InterNet connections in their padded cells(KlapsmÃ¼hle) will have a different opinion. Gee, I wanna buy a scooter so I do not have to walk thru the Mall!
One other comment; German men and women for that matter are on the whole a very good looking people. But great sex? Take away the American Bible puritan hangups and Germans are no better or worse in bed, parking garage or where ever you do your whoopy thing than fat Americans.

We have fat people here in Germany to so why should we talk about you? And there are good and bad people all around the world so why should we talk about eachother?Here in Germany we say that the people have to clean up there own house before they talk about other people.

I think that there are two groups of people, the first one dislikes the US, and the americans, because of it's politics, and generally the impact it has on most things, and there is the second group that really loves america, english etc. and wants to learn more about it.

Because you hear of america everyday, use english words in your vocabulary, i think that it just has become a part of our lives, although many don't like that, because you don't get to hear so much things of all the other countries.

But i don't like the arrongance most americans seem to have.

Germans don't understand all these fast foods. Even in the big department stores that serve lunch, you get a proper cooked tasty meal. They don't drive their cars all the time, living in the city you use public transport, which means you walk more. People do a lot more hiking, walking and also a lot of them eat their main meal at lunch time. My father already said in 1969, he's never seen so many fat people in his life, while visiting in US and Canada. But also, the Europeans do not clothe themselves like the Americans/Canadians. They don't wear shorts to go shopping. If they're heavy its disguised under clothing. Unless you have the figure to wear jeans, which means being thin, they don't wear them. You don't see fat stomachs hanging down, they wear girdles to keep them in. Maybe all the real fat ones could learn something from that. You can be heavy, but you don't have to look it by wearing the right clothes.

well when we Europeans think about the US fast food comes to our mind first...we probably think you don't do anything but eating Hamburgers and chips all day long while watching Dr. Phil or some other of your millions chat shows...we just think you are having a very boring and sad life...

I lived in Italy for two years, and all the Italians I met seemed to think every American is rich. They were always asking me for money or to buy things from them or for them.

Then a few years ago a good Muslim friend of mine from Morocco, which has basically become an outlet of France and Spain, came to America to start a family and said he couldn't believe how much America was like other countries such as his own, insomuch as the people have the same dreams, hopes, goals and desires, and the streets are NOT "paved with gold". What also fascinated him was how the American media portrays America as being far more socially and technologically advanced but tend only to focus on the poorest parts of other countries, which would be akin to other countries around the world basing their view of America on the back-woods of Kentucky.

The British are our allies, but they view us as stupid fat pigs to be tolerated and pitied, not really as their friends. They most revere our music, movies and other entertainment, much of which is similar to or based on British programming and entertainment.

Watch Rowan Atkinson's HBO stand-up comedy special where he mimes Americans as fat pigs continuously gorging themselves. America is NOT the richest country in the world- we don't even approach Dubais or Saudi Arabia, yet we are percieved as spoiled rich kids.

People in Europe should look at our President and realize that the bulk of Americans are white, uneducated, quasi-religious nuts with very little money, and yes, more and more of us are fat. It's because the government is banning smoking everywhere, which raises your metabolism...............LOL, just kidding..

Seriosuly though, most Europeans hate Americans because of our religion: MONEY. Americans worship money. That's all we care about, and it shows in our domestic and foreign policy. Some countries don't like being bought......France hates us most of all. They consider us to have no class and undeserving of our "wealth". Then again, maybe if they hadn't spent the past several centuries dropping their rifles and waving white flags, they'd be just as well off....LOL.

And the Germans just want us for sex.

You'd be surprised how many fat people there are everywhere these days - its promoted how many are in America but go walk through England and you'll see its almost the same.

I grew up in Europe and in Latin America. Most of the world thinks Americans are fat, reason why the food is so unhealthy. This is what I hear the most fast food and junk food are cheaper than healthier food. Organic veggies, fruits, and meats are more expensive. Not to mention all those chemicals in food. A other comment I hear is that unless your in New York public transportation sucks in this country..you have to drive from place to place instead of taking the bus or train.

However not all Americans are fat...there is fat people in every country.

To be honest, you seem quite fat people. Maybe because of the frequency you eat stuff at work or when going out.

for eg. hotdogs, pizzas don't do good at your fitness.
Try homemade food instead! :)

first of all, i don't blame anyone of being fat. you have to know what are you doing to your body.
but, i will tell you what i think and talk about a fat person (no matter what nationality): i think you should not wear shorts and bellyfree tops in public.
i think you should not walk around with a candybar or a burger in you hand.
i think, fat people don't have to complain being second hand smokers.
i think, fat people are more tolerant and have a good sense of humor

Not all do think like this. In my Home Country we do know the problem of being over weight ,too. Maybe not so bad like in the US, because we walk more and look out for healthier Food, but you will find the Problem besides Germany also in many other European Countries.
The Problem lies in Today's Modern Society, less hard physical labor, more Office and Light Jobs , Little or no Exercise and to much processed Food.
Or look at China, they claim now that nearly 60 Million People are obese. Surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!
So do not worried about "Fat Americans" .Fat People are everywhere

We have a lot of fat people too in Europe... But what we can see over the media (which may not be correct) is that too many Americans eat too unhealthy a food and move too little.

I guess most germans see that on T.V....my family ask me all the time...about the fat americans...but only the ones who have never even been to the States...so it gotta be the media and TV...lol. My brother-in-law...wasted all his time here taking pictures and movies from big butts...everywhere we went...he had to take pictures, of fat americans... he thaught it was so funny...but I found it to be stupid and a waste of time...I think there a fat ppl all over the world!!

We are all fat, no muscles from Brussels, lazy, world conquering rich , do nothing animals, They are Mercedes, Siemens, Bmw, Bosch, Amg , Porche, Lamborghinik, Ferrari, Maseriti , building , nonstop building animals. Built with not for a paycheck, but for Pride, Arrogance, and of course, their checks.
