What do you all think about the legendary German singer Mary Roos? |
I stumbled upon her music by accident while looking for new music at ITunes.com and I must say that she has such elegant vocals and some beautiful music. Never in a million years did I think I could get so hooked on German music like this. The only German music I've ever known before this was Kraftwerk. What a fool I am. My favorite songs of Mary Roos are:
1) Samba
2) Es Ist Immer Jetzt...
3) Halt mich fest
Let me know what you all think and some other German artists that you could recommend. Thanks so much.:-):-) |

Haha. The only thing I know about Mary Roos is that she sings the theme song to the children's cartoon Pinocchio here in Germany. My son used to watch that when he was little. Mary Roos is a folk singer. If you like that kind of music, you should listen to Heino, Roy Black, die Geschwister Hoffmann, Marianne und Michael, die Kastelruther Spatzen, Andrea Berg, Vicki Leandros. . . those are the only so-called "Schlagermusik" stars I know of, since that's not my preferred music. |

Ulli P is sort of half right: "Er gehört zu mir" is not by Mary Roos but by Marianne Rosenberg. But he has a point, if you like Mary Roos, you may want to give Marianne Rosenberg a try. Also, try listening to Wencke Myhre, Siw Malmkvist, Gitte Haenning - they aren't German, but they have some songs in German that are fun and melodic. Katja Ebstein might also be a singer you enjoy, great vocal range, some Schlager, some jazz. |

Try:
Karel Gott (similar to the Mary Roos style Music)
Blaeck Foeoess (They sing in Cologne dialect)
Bap (also Cologne)
Udo Lindenberg (Calls himself a rocker)
Nina Hagen( is a trained Opera singer but sings very wild songs)
I've written them in the order of milder to wilder..
About Mary Roos, I know that one of her songs is a cult thing in the gay community. It is called "Er gehoert zu mir" (He belongs to me) |
