I personally love the way of life now vs the US!! More freedom in my opinion than in the US.
The mountains and festivals are great. I love the people they are friendly and outgoing again in my opinion.
I would say I like my friends the most. |

That the majority of Germans is very interested in what goes on in the world. In contrary to the US every average German radio and TV news show gives you a broad variety of news from Germany and all other countries on this planet: Politics, economy, environment, culture, religions etc. Almost all US TV news shows only feature local news: Crime, burning homes, 3rd celebrities like Paris Hilton etc. Each time I spend more than a day in the US I "suffer" from a major lack of relevant global information on everything. I feel like sitting on a different planet. Sorry to say that!
What else:
- the insulated and solid built brick houses, a lot more sound-proof than the average US home. Theses houses could also better endure hurricanes.
- the buried power lines. You don't have to worry about a power breakdown with each minor thunderstorm
- German bread with a real crust, something you really can chew on - not comparable to the average American "sponge bread"
- no death penalty and very strict gun laws. The number of random shootings and murders in general is very low and you feel a lot safer not worrying about accidently meeting a person having a bad day and shooting around with a gun
- people tend to dress more formal or less careless than many Americans. I am not a fan of faded T-shirts and stained pants. In Germany there is no need to post signs on shop doors saying "Please wear a shirt".
- German precision e.g. function and aethetics are both important
- public transportation. Life in Germany is convenient even without a car |

well im an exchange student here in germany and i have been here for quite a while now and ill tell you a little something about my experience.
the food is to die for
the beer is better than anything i have ever tasted before in my life
the chocolate is amazing
the people are highly accepting and very nice
it is a requirement here for people to learn english and french in school
starting in 1st grade untill they graduate.
there is no death penalty here
the drinking age is 16 for beer and wine and 18 for everythin else
on the highway (autobahn) most places have no speed limit which is
convenient
they have laws restricting beaters (really crappy cars) from driving (you
very very rarely see cars broken down on the side of the road
here)
the government is quite stable as well as the economy
people here are globally concerned... tv, radio, school etc.
college is free for everyone who wants to go and can make it
families generally spend "family time" together frequently
people here generally dont hunt or fish, which means a very very select
few own a gun, which isnt necessary here
the crime rate compared to the u.s. is extremely low
the precentage of overweight people here is very low compared to u.s.
people are friendly here, you always greet total strangers and say hello
bread never comes in a bag or loaf, it is bought almost daily fresh from
a bakery
meat is almost always bought from a butcher fresh and not from a
supermarket
the scenery here is absolutely stunning
recycling is normal here, everyone has three bins for garbage, one for
cardboard and plastic containers, one for food waste and one for
irrecyclable waste, very little is actually not recyled here
vehicles are more environmentally friendly
public transportation (busses/trains) are everywhere. and are very
commonly used
streets are made to last, so construction is not nearly as common
germany is in the center of europe, so if you ever want to go to france
or any other surrounding country, its only about one hour train
ride away and its cheap
most of europe has the euro currency so no international conversion is
necessary
there are so many things i love about Germany. i have live almost my
whole life in the states and after coming here, i realize that this
is the best place on earth, and im going to do everything i can to
stay here for as long as i live. after coming here, i never want to
go back to the states. everything is good here. if you have any
questions, feel free to email me.
Tschüss!!! |
