What does Germany do with drug addicts? |
I understand like most large cities they have drug addicts. What are the penalties for being caught with drugs? REhab facilities? I saw a band entertaining and smelled marijuana and I also walked past a car with them band members sniffing something off a magazine. So wondered what the penalties were. I know they send military spouse home if they are involved in drugs. |

There are penalties for drug comsumption and they vary depending on the amount they catch with with. That's because, if they find a larger amount on you or at your place, they assume that your dealing rather than only consuming, and dealing carries a heavier punishment.
For marihuana, the same basic rule applies but with some exceptions: While it's still not legal to possess marihuana, you won't be prosecuted if the amount you have on you is deemed to be for personal comsumption only. The amount up to which this assumption holds varies from state to state, and you can get a pretty good overview here:

Other than that, yes there are rehab institutions, substitution programmes (methadone) etc. |

I am not familiar with their policies or penalties. I do know that my ex daughter-in-law slipped though the cracks with the US Army while stationed in Germany. She was an alcoholic with a love of the powder, and she managed to get back to the states unscathed. I wish I could say she straightened up, but the last I was around her, she was in a nose dive. |
