It is German for "dumb head." It is a parallel to 'idiot' in English. |

The spelling is Dummkopf, and yeah, it means idiot or stupid. |

You're thinking of "dummkopf"; it literally translates to "dumb head" or "stupid head" ("kopf" being "head" in English). In English, in most circumstances, we'd probably use "idiot". |

It just means dumb - head ; Kopf means head in German . It is insulting and whoever says it only shows their lack of civility, not their intelligence . |

Pretty much if you keep hearing people say that to you, it means that you are not the "sharpest tool in the shed," if you know what I'm saying...
However, some simply say "ignorance is bliss." |

Dummkopf is a weak insult
you can call your friends Dummkopf too without being insulting
dumb head or stupid head is the translation as mentioned above |

It seems every time geier answers every one gets a thumb down I wonder why?
I am not accusing you but it is the same with Bern too. Is this just some one else doing it and just a coincidence for it happens a lot. Just wondering.
People got negatives that had said the same as the agreed answer so why were they thumbed down? |

"Dummkopf" is a light insult which is used in a rather friendly, non-insulting manner. It's a rather old-fashioned insult which the younger generations hardly use anymore.
The English translation that comes closest would be knucklehead. Idiot is definitely too harsh. |

dum kauff ( I think is the spelling) literally means Dumb Head.
We would use idiot or some other more vile words to get the point across here in the U.S. |
