Just dress like the "typical American" imagines the "typical German" to dress. Otherwise, no one will get what you are trying to dress like, anyway.

Astrid
You could dress like Dieter from Sprockets (the Mike Meyers character on Saturday Night Live), so, in an all black bodysuit, slicked down hair and wire framed glasses. Icing on the cake would be a stuffed animal monkey so you could say, "Would you like to touch my monkey?" Of course, no German really looks like that, but to dress like a "typical German" is impossible because the people here dress the same as so many other places. Well, not impossible to dress that way, but impossible to distinguish a German from a Belgian, for example.

If you wear Lederhosen in particular, of course, you just look like a Bavarian!

If you are girl, wear a dirndl

If you are boy, wear a lederhose

Good posture, snappy dresser, ugly shoes.
