What is a common last name in saxony anhalt??

what is a common last name that is always found in or around saxony anhalt? coz im planning to make a story about a german guy who's a great lead guitarist from a hot european band. so far, his name is johannes but i was wondering what will be a good last name for him. something from saxony anhalt is the best coz the guy from whom the protagonist is based comes from saxony anhalt and i dont want to put his last name(kaulitz) on him so it wouldnt be obvious...

One of the most common (and typical for the region) last names in and around Magdeburg are Doering and Gedecke, including the variants Döhring, Gaedike, Goedicke, Gädicke, Gaedecke, etc.

Other common and typical last names from the same city are Bode, Thiele, Eckert, Gebhardt, Theuerkauf, Oelze.

Or you could go for the inside joke that very very few people will be able to get and call your hero Trümper. It is the name of the current mayor of Magdeburg, but there is more to the story.

The most common last names in Germany:
Schmid,Schmidt,Schneider,
Müller,Maier,Mayer,Meier,Meyer

Alwin E
Here's the website of the Landtag (parliament) of Saxony Anhalt with all its members:
http://www.landtag.sachsen-anhalt.de/index.php?id=45
Browse through them, find a face that's sympathetic, and just use the name you found.

My favorites:
Bommersbach Bergmann Heft Paschke Reichert Rotter Schellenberger Stahlknecht Wernicke Zimmer

btw, did you know that Kaulitz is also the name of a village in Saxony Anhalt? Many Germans have place names (usually birth places of their ancestors) as their last name, so you might consider taking the name of a town in Saxony Anhalt for your protagonist's last name. Try Arneburg for instance.

Well, a last name just common in this region would ("middle germany") be "Beutner" or "Beuthner"
