Power adaptors are available here at most electronics stores; most portable computers will adapt automatically. Take your usual clothing with you, but not too much of it, as you will unavoidably buy something new. If you're coming for business, first thing you will notice that German ties differ from American ones: The stripes seem to be "the other way round". Don't even try to bind your tie the right way; German tie cloth is just striped "the other way round" by manufacture, so you might want to buy two or three German ties, and be it just to confuse your American business partners once you're back home.
In all other ways, our cultures are very similar. If you're in doubt, just ask. The one problem many Americans have with us is that we mean what we say. If one of us says "come to the party in casual dress", that might be a mistranslation, as we mean "Freizeitkleidung", and that's not "business casual", but jeans and shirts. -- So a good idea for a beginner might be to always have two or three sets of clothing ready in his car, if you rent one or your company provides one. |

-Don't bring toiletry items more than 3 oz. Get one of those travelling packs w/ small bottles in them and put things like cologne, mouthwash, lotion, etc in them. Make sure the bag is clear.
-If you want to learn basic German words, get a dictionary from Barnes and Nobles. They are usually under 10 dollars.
-Exchange your American dollars for Euros before going on the flight. |
