What is the Friedrich Schiller Universität in Jena like?

Is it academically good, what is the social life like, how is Jena to live in?

It is a really good univerdity. I am from the UK and live near Jena.
I have visited the city many times. It has a good name and yes it is a gooduniversity.
Night-life is OK - I don't know where I am comparing it to, but there are many things to do at nights - theatre, concerts, pubs, and bars.
There is a nice shopping area as well.

It is nice - different to West Germany, people are very different to those living in the west.

Overall - I would recommend it as a place to study nd lie.

Have fun
xx

A friend of mine studied law there and the university has a good reputation for that. They also offered a lot of interesting courses. I visited her a few times and always enjoyed Jena as a city. Steer clear of the fraternities (quite different from fraternities/sororities in the US) and you'll be fine.

Around Jena there are also many places worth visiting. And cost of living is still lower in the eastern German states including Thuringia, where Jena is, so you should be ok.
