Germany has some great universities and cities.

It depends on what subject you want to study. I study at the RWTH University in Aachen and I really like it there.
At the moment the state is giving away much money to some universitys, that are somehow special. That is called "Exzellenz Initiative". I think they use it wisely in Aachen.

A very nice city with lots of Students (50,000 Students on 280,000 inhabitants, so its a very young city), so their is the typical student atmosphere. Its also one of the best and largest Universities in Germany (but depends also on what you study).
Its close to the "Ruhrgebiet" (Rhine-Ruhr-Area) with many bigger cities (Dortmund, Essen, Cologne, DÃ¼sseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, etc.) and also very close to the Netherlands

believe me im borne here in Munich This is the best city from germany and there you see the best guys( see me Ha ha ).We have a realy nice nightlife and there verry frendly people.I love my city and you verry welcome here.You have a nice view to the mountain and we have a lot of see and river you can swimm there.Our city is verry green and we have many Parks you can enjoy and relax there.The best park is english Garden there you can swimm and relax in one off the best beergarden with the best beer from the world.We have a lot of beergarden here.the security level is the highest in germany.I hope to see you here in our city take care always

Bremen is good for Science but it is not a fascinating city. Just try any big town with a good nightlife like Berlin, Hamburg or Cologne. Those universities are among the best in Germany.

Bremen is nice! They have a nice University, Bremen is a very beautiful city with a nice nightlife (many clubs), many young and friendly people AND Bremen is quite close to the Netherlands (itÂ´s about 4 hours driving to Amsterdam!) and to Denmark. And itÂ´s not far to Hannover, Hamburg, MÃ¼nster etc.
Another pro is, Bremen is not as expensive as Munich or Frankfurt.
Bremen has many shopping facilities, cinemas... and a nice history!

PS: Bremen is close to the coast (40 Minutes driving to the North Sea). You can go to the beach in the summer!

It would be best if you stated the SUBJECT you want to study, because the quality of our universities here largely depends on the subject you study, no kidding.

We do not have Ivy League or Elite universities here, at least not in such a way you might be used to from the US (I take it).

Generally, you will get more individual help at smaller universities, the larger ones here are more like a "swim or sink" thing.

The larger the city, the more younger people you will have around at the more vibrant the nightlife will be.

In terms of "beauty", Freiburg is very, very picturesque and will guarantee you most sun hours during the year. Hamburg has a very laid back Northern charm to it, Berlin is very urban but tends to be judged as rather "cold" by visitors from smaller towns, Munich has a bit of a jet-set appeal to it.

Well, I'm am German, so I have to put some things right here:

a) there are very few friendly people in Germany, no matter where you go.

b) universities in Germany are blatantly under-financed, so "nice facilities" is a bit of a problem; and the larger the university is, the bigger are usually the problems.

Apart from that: Heidelberg and TÃ¼bingen are two of the universities considered good-ish. Both are provincial cities with not much of a night-life; rents in both cities are extremely high.
