What is the cheapest way to get from Heidelberg to Amsterdam?

I have no idea how far apart the two are. My sister is coming over in a week and I would like to be able to show her all over Germany for really cheap. Does any one have any suggestions on railway tickets or cheap flight?

The Deutsche Bahn offers lots of different rates, so you have to check out all your possibilities. It is frequently so that it REALLY depends on WHEN you are travelling. There is the "Europa Spezial" Rate which cost EURO 39 - otherwise the rate is about EURO 100. Once again, restrictions are very clearly defined, but you have to do some searching.

I have included the Deutsche Bahn Website below - I don't know if it is available in english. The other link is the "europa Spezial" link.

BTW - Try to avoid the temptation to bring any "goodies" with you from Amsterdam. And if you do, don't travel looking like a smoker, a joker, or a midnight toker.

Heidelberg is placed roughly equidistant between Frankfurt and Stuttgart airports.

If you want travel by plane here a list of the Airlines that serves Amsterdam but I couldn't find any Airline. You can have a look here for the Destinations: http://www.routehunter.com/airlines/europe/cheap-flights-from-Amsterdam-to.html

Or ask in the Forum.

If you want go with the bus:
http://www.eurolines.co.uk/

Or rent a Car!

Good Luck!

Hard to beleive, but the cheapest way to travel anywhere in Europe these days is by air. I do not mean major airlines. But check "Easy jet", "Ryanair", and many many more small airlines.

Trains... Best views for cheap... Check online travel...

Do you have a car? If not, rent one. It is so much cheaper to drive there and it's not too far. It's 314 miles away which is 505 kilometers. That should take about 4 1/2 hours to drive there. That's easily two full tanks of gas which will cost you about 100 Euro.

Railway tickets will cost about 130-230 Euro per person roundtrip. Taking a flight wouldn't be worth it since the nearest airport that services RyanAir (which is the cheapest airline in Europe) is far away.

Like I said, try to drive there if you can. It's always easier with a car because you can travel at your own pace. If you see something you like, you can always stop. Whatever you choose to do, good luck and have fun!

I am from Heidelberg and I just lately went by bus to London. It was a bus of Eurolines / deutsche touring.
I had to change at Brussels, but there were many dutch people in the first bus which were continuing to Amsterdam.
I started from Karlsruhe, but I think you can start your journey from Mannheim as well. it was quite cheap this way.
You can get all the informations like time table and fares on Internet on:
