This is your cheapest option: Go to the train station after 9am and buy a promotional train ticket called "Bayern ticket single" for €18. This ticket is valid for up to 5 people travelling together on regional (non-express) trains. Then find 4 other people on the train station who are also travelling to Munich and want to share the cost with you. Then go to Munich using regional trains - it will take you about 30 min longer than on fast trains.

With some luck, the journey Salzburg-Munich should only cost you € 3.60 plus the cost of getting to the German border, which should be less than € 5.

Take the train, it takes you about an hour and you get to the city center of Munich. These trains are going quite frequently. Don't know exactly about the prices, but it's not so expensive.

bergab_hase's info is fine, she's right. Except, when ou order hte "Bayern-Ticket single" (=18€) you'll get the ride for ONLY ONE person. Better is the normal "Bayern-Ticket" for 5 persons (Bavaria-Ticket=25€).

Salzburg is very near to the German/Bavaria border, so, as a major city, it is still included in the Bayern-Ticket. To get more information go to German Railway's homepage on "Ländertickets" (ergo states-tickets: for example, Bayern, Baden Wurttemberg, Rhineland Palatinate, etc. - go to the Bayern-Ticket section for the prices)

There are trains every hour from 0500 to 2300 every day, the journey takes 1h10min from Salzburg to Munich.
Have a nice trip!
