The consequences of driving more than 50 km is that you'll need a lot of expensive fuel. I suppose you mean 50 km/h, that is, fifty kilometers per hour.
Well, that's the regular speed limit within towns, which can be restricted in some areas to 30 km/h. Fines are high, and if you're a German, your license can be easily suspended for a month, a quarter year, one year, and so on. If it is taken away from you for more than 15 months, you'll have to undergo a psychological test and take all the driving lessons you took in the beginning anew, and that won't come cheap. (Same applies to DUI, but the punishment is even harder than for speeding.)
Outside towns, there's a speed limit of 100 km/h (which often is restricted by signs telling you "80" or "60"). But don't expect that you'll see a speed limit before a bench. There are warning signs "caution, bench!", but it's up to you how fast you drive. Don't suppose you can take it with a hundred km/h; brake it down!
On the famous Autobahns, the recommended speed is 130 km/h, unless signs tell you otherwise. And there are a lot of signs that tell you otherwise! But just in case you find a free lane on the autobahn, hit the metal. My speed record is well over 200 km/h; the car wouldn't go beyond 240. |

50 km/h is the speed limit in cities ( if not limited to 30 - for example in residential areas ). I've listed some of the fines for speeding depending on how much you were too fast. Note that the fines outside cities and on the Autobahn differ depending on the speed limit.
up to 10 km/h 15,- EUR (usually exempt from punishment)
11-15 km/h 25,- EUR
16-20 km/h 35,- EUR
21-25 km/h 80,- EUR, 1 point
26-30 km/h 100,- EUR, 3 points
31-40 km/h 160,- EUR, 3 points, 1 month driving ban
41-50 km/h 200,- EUR, 4 points, 1 month driving ban
51-60 km/h 280,- EUR, 4 points, 2 months driving ban
61-70 km/h 480,- EUR, 4 points, 3 months driving ban
70 km/h or more 680,- EUR, 4 points, 3 months driving ban
About the points: Collect 18 and you lose your license permanently. |
