What is the effect of the 2006 World Cup on tourism in Germany?
With over 500 golf courses in Germany, wherever they decide to have it, the World Cup would probably increase the popularity of that city. Increase its exposure to more people around the world who would want to enjoy in its new found popularity. Maybe a 70 percent increase to the economy over a twelve month period?

I don´t think that the effect is so big, but maybe more people will see now, that Germany is not only "Hofbräuhaus" and "Oktoberfest". This year, there came many people to watch the World Cup, but I´m sure they won´t come back to Germany next year. Hotels say, before the World Cup started, there were less guests there, then all over the last years. I guess we will see the effect first in two or three years!

Soccer is a very big hype over in Europe. We just don't get it in the States. I was in Berlin the week before the World Cup & there's World Cup & soccer paraphenilia being sold EVERYWHERE! Certain roads were already being closed off & there's increased security throughout the city to accommodate all of the visiting teams, staff, & spectators. Berlin is not one of the most picturesque cities in Europe since most of historic Berlin was destroyed during the war & the days of the Berlin Wall. It has been rapidly growing & changing, and now resembles New York City. With a brand new department store (new equivalent of an American mall) & railway station, Berlin is attracting more & more people to its evolving culture. I thought the city was pretty neat, but I only spent two days there.
