It really depends on your flight - from where to where :-D

Below is the correct page from Lufthansa. Its generally around 50 lbs per suitcase and you can“t combine the 2 suitcases - for example you can“t take 1 suitcase with 100 lbs instead of 2 that weigh 50. You don“t have to take 2 suitcases but if you have just barely 50 maybe you should take a second bag along and split your things between the 2 because you will most likely bring back some stuff on the way back and don“t want to exceed your weight allowance of 50 lbs on one bag!

On flights from/to America you've got "piece concept" which means you can take 2 pieces of luggage each up to 23 kg. On other flights in economy class you've got 20 kg free luggage.
