What is the one place in southwestern part of Germany that you would visit as a tourist?

Two of my sisters and I might get the chance to visit my niece next summer. She has not yet moved there but is moving close to Kaiserslautern this spring. We are just in the beginning stages of planning the trip. This summer we went to Venice to visit another niece. (BIG family) Although she was working in Tuscany we picked Venice by taking a poll of the one place most people we asked wanted to return. IT WAS WONDERFUL! We won't have a lot of time to explore while in Germany so thought I'd start collecting people's opinions now. THANKS!

Paris Hilton is right-Lake Konstance is gorgeous. You can take a ferry from Konstance (the city) and see the Isle Mainau (an island filled with flowers-hey, if it“s cold, they have a great butterfly house worth seeing).

Try to get to the east a little bit and visit Mad Ludwig's Dream - Neuschwanstein Castle. We just traveled through this area one the way back from Venice, and the leaves are turning colors and it“s gorgous.

Depends on how far you are willing to travel, but I'd really recommend Freiburg and the Blackforest around it. Freiburg is a town of culture and architecture, very pretty and lively, and the region around is just beautiful. Try the local wine, too, it's excellent.

check out the Heidelburg castle in Heidelburg of course. At the time I was there was in 1984-1987. They have a great tour inside of all the rulers clothes incased behind glass walls and wine barrels as big as a house. They have a great restaurant inside too. At night if you stand on the bridge nearby they light up the castle's outside, they call it Heidelburg castle burning antways it's spectacular.

I don't have an opinion on this one. Check with a local travel agency that can offer you specific places that match your interests. (I personally prefer studying the old buildings for their architectural appeal). Thank you for the e-mail and I will ask some people who have lived or travelled there and pass on any opinions I get. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Hope you have an wonderful time.
