Yes, from the US to Germany you´ll need a passport, not so much for entering Europe but for returning to the US.
You should carry a carseat or infant carrier that is airline approved if it´s a transatlantic flight - you don´t want to hold your baby in your arms for 9 hrs plus, trust me! Other than that, if it´s an infant make sure you have water, juice, formula, pacifier (take an extra) wet wipes and diapers very handy, a new baby toy and tons of patience :-)
If you´re breastfeeding and your baby is not asleep during takeoff, try to wait feeding the baby until right after takeoff so the pressure build up in it´s ears will regulate by drinking since they can´t chew gum or regulate it on their own yet.
Oh yeah, and take a warm blanket for on the plane since it can get cold and the airline blankets aren´t really the most cosy ones :-) Hope you have a pleasant trip! |

you need a passport, and a visa where required. |

Some airlines require children to be so old before they fly. Usually 6 weeks old. Check with the airline that you are flying with. It really depends on where you go overseas so to what shots you need. I am assuming you want to fly to Germany. Your child is not required to have any shots for the trip but I would suggest that you get your child his first set of immunizations before you go. |

There is no age limit, but you will need a passport and a visa. If you are divorced you should get a travel autorization of the other parent (something to do with the child obduction act). You'll need a bottle of water or juce so your child doesn't get ear aches from pressure changes in the capin and you will need to reserve a bulkhead seat for the infant carrier. |

Are you American going to Germany? I'm pretty sure the infant only needs a passport if you're stay is no longer than sixty days in the EU.
But don't just take my word for it. Check out the embassy in Washington's English language web site: www.germany.info |
