What is vilseck germany like? what is it close to? will i find nice bags there like coach and nice clothes?

Vilseck is a little 'cow town' about 45 minutes from Nuernberg. I have the pleasure of living here (in V.) for the past 12 years. You won't find anything in Vilseck nor (so far) in Grafenwoehr. Grafenwoehr will finish its PX sometime soon though, and it's supposed to be the largest in Europe.
For purses and (good looking) clothes I wouldn't depend on your local PX though,most of the stuff they've been selling I wouldn't even wear even if they gave them to me for free.
Shop in Nuernberg, fantastic downtown with so many nice stores, everything from Designer to inexpensive, you'll find everything there.
For knock-off stuff, I would go across the border to Czech, they have these Vietnamese markets right behind the border on the czech side, you'll find very nice things there, purses, wallets, clothes (ADIDAS, GUCCI etc.) dirt cheap.
Don't make the mistake and just shop on post as many Americans do. Oh, I forgot, Regensburg is another interesting town to shop in, close to Hohenfels. Frankfurt is about 2 1/2 hours from Vilseck in one direction and Munich about 2 1/4 hours in the other direction. You can take a pick.

Vilseck, a major training center, has been described as the "school house" for the US Army, Europe. Transition training and fielding of new equipment is its most visible mission. It is located about 30 miles west of the Czech Republic border and 50 miles northeast of Nuernberg.

Vilseck is one of the most charming military installations in Germany. This is a quiet, but friendly community of people helping people. Vilseck is located in the state of Bavaria (Bayern) approximately 60 miles from Nuernberg, 29 miles from Weiden and 25 miles from Amberg.

Families assigned to Vilseck enjoy this peaceful, rural farming community of gently sloping hills and meadows, surrounded by small villages built on lands cleared hundreds of years ago. The area abounds with many lakes suitable for great fishing. Berchtesgaden and Garmisch, only a few hours away, offer a variety of summer and winter sports activities.

Vilseck is located in the state of Bavaria (Bayern) in the Oberpfalz region. It is a small rural community with a population of about 8,000. Vilseck derived its name from the once alone standing fortress (Burg) Dagestein on the Vils river. This castle is probably one of the oldest in the whole Oberpfalz. Today Vilseck has a train station and bus connections to nearby cities. Restaurants include 1 Chinese, 3 Greek, 3 Italian and 15 German eating establishments. Shopping is available at 3 grocery stores, 3 bakeries, 5 butcher, 1 hardware store, 2 flower stores, an office supply store, 2 souvenir shops with household ware, 3 shoe stores, 3 beauty/barber shops and 2 cosmotolegists. A German post office, 4 banks and two night clubs are also available. Shopping hours are Monday through Friday from 0800 to 1200hrs and from 1400hrs to 1800hrs. On Saturdays stores are open from 0800 to 1200hrs.

totaly country. no fashion you have to go to the city for that but it is verry close to nuernberg .

It is a very small base. The majority of the soldiers you meet there will be students which incidentally pull almost all base details while attending school.

When I was there it had a bowling alley, a so-so PX, a movie theater, and a commissary. There was not much to do there other than drink and unlike most of Germany there were only a couple of bars nearby to do that.

Vilseck is a small town and the locals are a little more distant than most Germans, because most soldiers aren't there long enough for them to get to know.

As far as clothes and everything else, the PX tries to keep a decent variety of quality items, but you are better off shopping for many things on the German economy which is much more expensive. You can cut cost down by using a VAT form for your high dollar purchases so you can avoid the very high German sales tax.

Also a habit I developed from my years in Germany that took many years to break when I returned to the US, is if you see something you want at the PX buy it immediately because you might not be able to find it later.

Get away from Vilseck and visit Germany's larger cities. Take trips to Prague and Budapest and you will have a great time.

Vilseck itself is a very small Bavarian town.
Bad news, not much to offer in the way of sightseeing and shopping.

Good news, it is only about 1 hour drive from Nurnberg, a major city. You are also less then 40 miles from the border with the Czech Republic. There is so much beautiful scenery around that area and plenty of opportunity for hiking, walking and biking.
You are also in Southern Germany so the Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) Garmisch and the Alps are only less then 3 hours by car.
Due to the influx of units to Vilseck and Grafenwoehr (Vilseck belongs to Grafenwoehr Military Garrison but they are separated by a common training area and a 35 minute drive by car) there are lots of new facilities being built. Like a new housing area and schools near Grafenwoehr, new PX and Commisary, etc..

There are better places to be stationed, but there are also MUCH worse places to be stationed.

Soon the on base part of Vilseck will be little home town USA. The only thing about Vilseck that I do not like is it's remoteness. I like living close to a larger town that has a theater, cinema, a lage number of bars and resturants etc. In Vilseck you will find that evrything is about 20 minutes away.
But you make your stay. I suggest get out and enjoy Europe.
