The Euro Dollar is used now all over mainland Europe except England, Russia and a few other places but just about all Europe.

Years ago each had their own currency and Germany used the DM (Deutsch Mark) and before the country became united again they had two forms of German currency, Western DM and Easter DDR coins.

TO YOU IDIOTS http://www.ibiblio.org/theeuro/InformationWebsite.htm?http://www.ibiblio.org/theeuro/faq

THAT TELLS IT ALL!!!

Now all are Euro pretty much except those few.

Over all I think it was a good Idea to do.

And a responce to that girl who said every country in the EU uses Euros.. The U.K doesn't! Gosh, we use pounds duhh ££££££££££!

And to the bloke up there who said England is the only place that doesn't use the Euro, what about the rest of Britain you TWIT?

The Euro :-) Before that, we used the Deutsche Mark, (and I miss it, personally) :-)

I didn't want to answer that question, as I found it sufficiently answered by "euros"; but still, let me go into a little practical detail.

Germany uses the euro as real cash. "Plastic money" is not very much appreciated, not even at supermarkets, and if so, they prefer the European ec/maestro card to any other credit card, as it's linked online to your German bank account. Most smaller stores will only accept cash. It's no problem, however, to draw cash from any ATM with any of the major international credit cards.

To pay their regular bills, most Germans allow the companies to draw the money directly from their bank account (no risk involved; can be withdrawn within six weeks) or issue a direct bank deposit into the other account (nowadays mostly done online from home). The latter can be done throughout all Euro countries, with little or no transactions fees involved. So many Germans don't even own a credit card, just because they don't NEED it. They have their "bank card" to draw money from an ATM, and otherwise use online banking, or use cash. And that's it.

Maybe I gave you some more detailed information about everyday money use in Germany. You can say, it's a "cash country". Somewhere deep inside the German soul, there is the feeling that you must FEEL and TOUCH the money to know that it's real.

Germany, like all other countries in the EU, use Euros. Previous to that, they used the Mark.

dukefenton
They used to use marks (properly Deutsche Mark); now they use Euros. At the rate they're going, they'll be using dinars soon.
