That depends on the type of terrain.
When I was there I walked a lot of pavement (was an exchange student with a homestay) and wore high tops...when they were in style in late 1980's.
I've heard those expensive shoes with the weird looking heels with springs are sooooo comfortable.

Depends where you are going to. Cities or the Alps?
For the Alps you'll definitely need not walking shoes, but decent hiking or trekking boots. Boots like Lowa Baffin Pro, Hanwag Yukon, Hanwag Forest GTX, Meindl Bernina, Scarpa Nepal, Vasque Wasatch GTX, Montrail Blue Ridge Gore-Tex,...
For cities I would recommend trekking sandals instead, Teva Terra-Fi 2, Keen Newport, Teva Omnium, Ecco Yucatan or maybe Birkenstock. For rainy days take sandals that can withstand getting soaked and combine them with water-proof socks. Less weight to carry around that way. |
