What should I bring for a really long plane ride?

I will be going to Germany in June. The thing that is scaring me is the long plane ride! What should I bring? I heard airlines charge for EVERYTHING now. I know I'm bringing my mp3 and so dried foods, any other suggestions? Do you think people will be friendly there? :/

First, check the website of the airline you're flying with. It will give details of what movies they're scheduling, what they offer as additional inflight entertainment, and even give you an overview of the meals they will be serving. If the website doesn't give this information contact your travel agent.

Second, what to bring:
the bottle of water is an excellent idea, you will get dehydrated. Drink small amounts, that way you won't have to run to the bathroom every half hour (and wait in line...). Also, get used to drinking more water before you travel.
Pepto is also a good idea, as are bringing painkillers that you're used to.
If you do want to take sleeping pills try them at home first, you might not like the side effects.
food: I've never heard of airlines prohibiting you from bringing your own food, but then again I haven't flown with every airline in existence. For food, I would bring whatever you snack on usually, be it carrots, cookies, fruit, pretzels.
As for entertainment, your mp3 player is a good idea: aside from music, why not take audio books? Also bring games, puzzles.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. slip off your shoes when you get on the plane. Go for a wander occassionally.

And people in Germany are like everywhere: some are wonderful, others less so. Just remember your Guten Tag and Danke Schon and you'll be fine. Have a wonderful journey.

A Bible or a really Good book and some good music and some Excedrin. they work wonders for headache etc. they work better then tylenols

Bring your laptop. Many long flights now have internet access for a small fee which should make time go by faste ... people friendliness varies, sometimes friendly sometimes not

I don't think so you need to bring some food in the plane. You get it there anyway. MP3 is good, you can listen the music you like.
Germany is very nice, people (some of them) friendly. Most the people speak also English, they start to learn in the 3. grade with second language English.
Enjoy your trip.

the people in germany are really friendly... bring stuff to read and your digital cam... you never know what kind of great shots you might get on the plane! ha ha Maybe pack some Advil flying really makes my eardrums hurt badly... even if I chew gum and do the whole swallowing thing. Good Luck on your flight.

I would bring a small pillow, a big bottle of water, chewing gum, motion sickness pills, paper nail filer, book or magazine, small bag of chips or pretzels, music to listen to, If you like carrots, I would bring some carrot sticks, an English/ German dictionary, pen and paper to make list on or jot down ideas. Yes I think people will be friendly there. Do not worry and have a great time!

A pillow, blanket, puzzles, book, snacks, and a game. The last plane I went on, there was hair all over the blanket and the pillow is so small. The planes don't change the pillows or blankets, they just fold them on the chair from the last user.

Don't forget Advil and Pepto- just in cause you get sick.

Bring water because they won't bring you enough. Comfortable shoes are a must, and I recommend you walking around as much as possible. Wear clothes you can sleep in and aren't tight. Bring a book just in case you don't like the movies they are playing. Usually, people are willing to chat, but it is just the luck of the draw. Some are really nice, and others don't say anything at all. Just be friendly.

Have a good trip!

Get some really good noise cancelling headphones for your iPod (or whatever). If you're rich get Etymotics - they're unbelievable.

Why do this? You can hear the music properly - that relaxes you and you cut out the incessant noise of the plane.

Take your shoes off as soon as you're seated and don't put them back on till you land.

Drink loads of water - planes dehydrate you seriously.

Have a nice flight and enjoy Germany!

Depends on which airline you are taking, cheap ones do charge for everything and some (if not all) do not allow you to bring your own food. but i haven't taken a long flight with the cheap airlines so better check with them. a book and mp3 player are good company, unless you prefer to sleep. some airlines have in-flight movies too. like any other place, there are friendly and not-so-friendly people in germany, but that's quite normal i guess. i would advise you to bring a pocket dictionary or translator if you dont speak german. have a nice trip!

a good book, some music, big bottle of water and one of those travel pillows.

sleeping pills, trust me no book or movie will ever work better then sleeping pills. I know, i fly often and far.
And ask flight attendant to wake you up when you land.

nsb_ca
You need to take sleeping pills with you, and enjoy sweets dreems througout the flight duration, and yes people will be very friendly to take care of your MP3 and because you will be sleeping, someone will help you to get rid you your dried foods....enjoy the trip

Best

Actually do NOT bring dried foods! That can make you very sick. Pack a lunch with some bottled water. Take a book. You won't use half of what you bring because you will SLEEP most of the way. I do suggest a small bottle of tylenol. You may need it.
