Hitler,Krauts, Blondes,Beer Drinkers,Natzi, Hedie,Leatherhosen,Hi, I am German I live here in the USA buy the way I am very giving and friendly. Yes this is a stereotype. People are people. There are good people and bad people in all the ethnic groups. An example Good Cops Bad Cops.People are people it doesn't matter where you come from or what color you are. |

Guess what?
I'm a German too .
I don't drink beer , I don't eat meat ( so no sausage for me )and I don't have blonde hairs and blue eyes.
So much for the stereotypes.
The Germans are in general nice to foreigners but they might be a little colder towards arabs and turks . The reason is that some Germans think that there are already enough of them in the country.
It kind of scares , disturbs some of us that in some areas you think you are in a different country because nobody speaks german.
anyway ich wünsche noch einen schönen abend |

I think of me. Blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and like to celebrate. Not being friendly to foreigners is something that is true of just about every country. There are mean people in the world, and nice people too.
yes I know not all Germans fit in this stereotype, this is just what I think of. |

A typical stereo type is beer and bratwurst. Or the kind of thing you see in the movie "Beerfest" Being American and living in Germany for over 2 year now, its not really like that. People are actually quite friendly and have offered to help me learn the language more and most of them even speak english with me.
Any person from any counrty likes it when a foreigner at least tries to speak their native language when they are in that country. But Ive noticed that germans realize that it is a difficult language for a non native speaker to pick up on so they dont make fun of you for mispronouncing things and they are quite understanding of the cultural differences between their country and others.
I agree with the person who said that it is France that does not particularly like, so to speak, foreigners. In all the European countries I have visited, I felt the most out of place and disliked in France.
Some people might mistake the cultural differences, such as basic behavior, as being rude. When I first moved here from Minnesota, I thought everyone was just plane rude. When you pass someone on the sidewalk, they dont say hi or even give you a little smile. I was pregnant and people dont hold open doors or start a conversation with you in like at the grocery store. In line at the store, people are so close to you, you can practically feel them breathing on your neck. If someone wants to get through and you are in the way, they dont say excuse me, they just kind of bump into you and dont say anything at all. No one says, "Hi, how are you doing today?" That is a personal question and you only ask it to someone you are close to and only if you really want to know "how are you doing"
A few times my husband ran into the store and left me and the kids in the car, and the car was running. Older people actually come up to the car and tell you to turn of the car. Its bad for the environment and its wasteful.
Every country has something different about it and its not all that strange, its just different from what you are used to in your country. |

Most are friendly I noted when I was in Frankfurt and Mainz. Others have also told me good stories, its pretty much just the troll clones two here one impersonating me which means flattery which means love so I don't report them but the Anti Troll Leauges have been and are winning as they always do.
Germans overall may seem cold at first but that is not coldness that is more shyness I saw, once I spoke to them they were very friendly. So it is a stereotype honestly. I am the real Di. |

Unfriendly.
I think many Americans think Germans are unfriendly due to the prevalent American bashing in the German press and media. Americans are repeatedly painted as being inherently evil, ignorant, a menace etc.... The German people I have met and those I know in the US are fine, interested in the US and very friendly and helpful. But the German media is another thing altogether. Many Americans and German-Americans are very upset by this when they travel or visit home. All Germans are not Hitler - just as all Americans are not Bush. I think the media is doing everyone a disservice.
For older people, Germany will always be associated with WW2, as their parents either fought or suffered in it. Many Americans have relatives that died abroad in the war, or have camp survivors in their family tree. For those people, Germans are seen as untrustworthy and militaristic. I have American Jewish friends that will not set foot in Germany. It is just how they feel.
I personally don't believe that stereotype as I have German and German American friends here in the US. They are very friendly and love the US, that's why they came here after all. The two groups that the majority of Americans are descended from are the Irish and Germans. Stereotypes generally are false, but that doesn't stop people. You just have to accept that stereotypes are generally negative.
But unfriendly and cold is the typical stereotype. |

From my perception, the mentioned stereotypes are rarely found on a global scale. Today Germany is rather seen as a liberal and open country.

Germany is home to the third highest number of international migrants.
Think of Canada´s immigrants and Australia´s combined.

Germany is also one of the most visited countries in the world. |

the stereotype is that germans are very precise and do things to the clock, where im from this is sort of seen as negative but i can tell you germans are actually really casual, ive found.
btw i dont mean germans seen as negative i mean the traits of being so precise and uptight(like americans are) is not seen as admirable. |
