I have to agree with Alwin. It depends on the time of year plus the kinds of things you like to do as well.

There is much to offer depending on the locale you choose.

What is it that you want to do there? That can better help suggest locales for you.

Example if you love the Sea anywhere North say near Kiel, Barthe area of th Baltic is great in the Summer. Weimar is great for culture and art.

So you see it does have a variety depending on where you go.

germany got beaches for the summer, mountains for wintersport, hillside for wandering, fairytail castles, citys like Berlin and Hamburg and Munich, lot of lakes for watersport, attraction parks and Germany is not that big so everything can be reached in one day or less.
decide when you wanna go, winter, summer, spring once you've done that we let you know where to go best than.

what are your interests? citys? wintersport? beach? sightseeing in general? you see, too many questions to give you the right answer.

It depends what you like to do. I use to live and work in Garmisch Partenkirchen Bavaria and think it is still one of the most beautiful places in Germany winter and Summer. Heidelberg is great in Summer and Fall, very romantic it has 4 castle and in summer they have fireworks on each one at the same time pretty cool. If you like hip and cool city live Berlin and Cologne comes to mind. There are so many great Cities it is really tough to mention all of them.

I think Bavaria is a perfect place for a vacation. There is lots to see and experience. Go to Munich and from there you can go to the Alps, Neuschwanstein castle and explore the numerous lakes. Munich is a perfect place if you like to taste the German beer and the people are very friendly.

I would say overall that the state of Bavaria gives one the most options. I have never been in the former Eastern bloc section so I'm not sure about that part.

It depends on the time of year, how long you want to stay, and what your intentions are, but one of the major cities, be it Cologne, Munich, or (my favorite) Berlin can never be wrong. But if you like, for example, wintersports, then maybe a holiday resort in the countryside would be the right thing for you.

It really depends on what your idea of a great vacation is.

For me, I love to meet and talk to the German people. We spend most of our time in the Eifel region in small villages; I had the fortune to be able to walk the streets of the village where my great-grandmother was born. We took in Burgfest at Hellenthal-Reiffersheid, visited Burg Eltz, (much older and way more interesting than Neuschwanstein IMHO), drove along the Rhein, down through the Schwarzwald and into Bayern (which is every bit as beautiful as everyone says it is and more) and topped it off with a hot air balloon ride over Augsburg and a day at Oktoberfest in Muenchen.

I think our next trip will be an "Urlaub in dem Bauernhof" or vacation on a farm. (We have small kids, so they'd really love that).

You'll have to decide for yourself what you think you'd enjoy...Germany has it all.

all the answers were right, it really depends on what you wanna do and which time you want to go
but the lake of Konstanz is beautiful
you can go swimming, go climbing and there are many nice towns for example Konstanz and Überlingen
have fun where ever your gonna go

Depends on what you have planned and what you want to do during your vacation. My favorite city, where I grew up, is Nuremburg. There is a ton of history to be learned in that city. You can visit an old stadium where hitler used to give speeches, visit downtown and go shopping and enjoy some really nice, old churches while you're there. Plus, if you plan to go during the Holidays, you'll be there in time to enjoy the famous Christmas market downtown. It's very hard to explain, but the atmosphere during that time is wonderful, despite the cold temperatures outside! Frankfurt is also very nice, as well as Wuerzburg, Mannheim, Koln, Berlin, Munich.....Whatever city you decide to visit, I'm sure you'll have a great time!
