Whats up in vilseck ( housing)?

Hello! My husband my daughter and I will get stationed in vilseck germany. I m not too scared about living in Germany since I m german but I m told so many different things about vilseck. Is it really so boring there? I heard there is everything u can wish for on post as far as food court and activities. And once I was told housing is great and new and another person tells me it's old and sucky...Is there only the possibility to live onpost? Or can we get offpost housing and bah??

i use to live in germany on base! well then again i was little but hey! ok so really you dont go off of base all that much... you do have like EVERYTHING you need in the base... really its just like living in america but in a different country if that makes sence lol good luck oh and there is so much history there so just go to different villages and states and its a lot more fun than you think! oh yeah i also lived off post but it was in an apartment near post... you can live wherever you want to but you might want to stay close to base for your daughter to be able to go to an american school! good luck

Hello, we just got stationd here in Vilseck about 2 month ago, and i really have to say it is boring, lol. People here are rude and gossip is taking over this post. I'm german as well, but this doesnt make a difference here, germans are even rude to there own people, lol. I really wish, we would of stayed in the states. About Housing on post, we had to stay in a Hotel for about 6 weeks, and then got on post housing, which is great. It is nice, at least the one we live in , and the ones i've seen so far. . Also, we do not have a PX , you will have to drive to Grafenwoehr for that, which is about a 25 minute drive from here. If u have any other questions , feel free to ask me.

Currently, the waitlist for a 2-bedroom isn't too bad, so you'll most likely have to live on post. The Vilseck housing is indeed outdated, but if you get the chance to move into Grafenwoehr's "Netzaberg" area (also part of the Vilseck community), jump on it. Yes, it'll be a bit of a drive, but they're brandnew single-family homes, can't beat that.

Check out this website: https://onestop.army.mil/

As for Vilseck being boring...if you're a big city kinda girl, yes, you might not like having to drive 30 minutes to get to places. Personally, I don't mind and I really like the area. Also, the Graf PX and food court are very nice (especially compared with other German posts). Vilseck itself doesn't have a PX, but it has the furniture store instead.

I'm every day in Vilseck "Rose Barracks", driving to the High School there. It's very boring, believe me. The housing, what I see there is so far OK, but I was never inside the Buildings, they are clean, and renovated, have play grounds, schools (Elementary, High School) another Elementary and Middle School is in Netzaberg is brand new driving time is more than 30 minutes, Commissary, Furniture Store, Sport Store, Movie theater, gas Station, shopped, Thrift Shop, Car Care center, Car Wash, Burger King, Subway's, Clinics and some more stuff inside the base.
There is another PX and Commissary (new and big) in Grafenwoehr, driving time is 20-30 minutes from Vilseck also another Elementary in Grafenwoehr. Check the google.map.
If you are hiking, biking, walking is a great place. So much forest and very clean air. Round is just a little villages, with little stores. If you want to see something you need to drive, like Amberg, Weiden, Nuremberg. Munich is over 280km, or you make some traveling with MWR, but they charging so much money.
You can stay off post, need to contact the housing, they are having many people living off post and also US has Gov. Leasing's homes round too.
One more thing: The winters are here very cold and so much snow. Specially this winter was horrible.
But I wish you good luck by moving to Vilseck....
