I lived there for a year and each season offers different good things. It also depends on which area of the country you would like to visit and what type of activity you like the best.
Oktoberfest, Christmas fairs, hiking in the Black Forest, Berlin, each offers different attractions. |

Not now! I wore a coat all day long! But if you plan to do serious sighteeing, then before October- alot of the cool things to see shut down (city fountains, certain areas like Eagle's Nest). If you want nice weather, try mid-May to Sept. If you want winter, anything after Nov. till Feb. or so. Either way, you'll need a coat or an unbrella, or both! It rains here all the time and it never gets truly *hot*. And watch those hotel reservations! As a general rule, there is NO a/c in this country. But the sites are lovely, train rides are good, and if you are in bigger areas alot can speak English. |

September is the best time of year to visit the whole country. Oktoberfest, in Munich, is in the last two weeks of september and first week of October. The weather will also still be pleasant enough to walk through Berlin and Cologne. October is pretty good also as the cooler weather is made up for by changing trees. December will be cheaper and several cities in Bavaria (Rothenburg, Nuremberg) have excellent Christmas festivals and the Larger cities all have excellent public transportaion to take the edge off the cold. |

August for meeting girls and guys. (Germans need a long time to warm up their rather "cold" attitude)
End of August - September for hiking. A little cooler and f***ing blue sky mountains! Absolutely awesome! Cheaper, too.
June-Juli ( roughly the summer vacations) for European train travel: They usally offer a cheap Euro-Train-Ticket. Buy once and go free anywhere!
Few Germans at home to this time, though. Check out the mediterranean sea to find them there. This is the reason why they are so good mooded in August. ;)
October, for Oktoberfest in Munich and most other cities, too. You will spend money here! The Euro is not cheap and Munich is most expensive.
December to attend christmas in a real middle-age-curch. |
