Where's a good place to stay in Munich during Oktoberfest close to the action? |
My friend and I will be traveling Germany and Austria next year and plan to attend Oktoberfest, but are looking for suggestions on a hotel that is a good place to stay for 2 nights and close to the festival. |

Hotel Uhland is a place to lay your head, but it sells out quickly. http://www.hotel-uhland.de/enwelcome.html
There are also several branded hotels very close. I know that there are a Hilton and a Four Points within stumbling distance.
There are some nicer hotels closer to Haputbahnhof (main train station) like the Sofitel and Le Meridien. I've stayed at the Le Meridien twice and while it's overpriced, it's quite nice. It's a medium length walk to the fest grounds from there.
The subways are wonderful, but they are incredibly crowded during the fest. If the weather is clear, walking is a much better way to get there. Also, it does grow old having to subway it everytime you want to get there.
Oh, and be sure to arrive at the tents as early as possible. You can sit at a reserved table, just be sure to vacate it before the reservation time.

Hi,
I wouldn't stay too near to the Oktoberfest, as it is loud and crowded. Depending on your budget you're better off staying near central station in a hostel/budget hotel or in some of the expensive hotels in the city center.
From central station its one station by underground to Theresienwiese, the location of Oktoberfest and trains go every 2-3 minutes.
You could also walk 15-20 minutes. And be sure to make your reservations well in advance, as hotels tend to be booked out pretty soon.

The subway system in Munich is so great you can stay almost anywhere and still be in a convenient location. I actually did stay about 3 and a half blocks from the meadow and had no noise problem...It was cool, plus it's nice to be able to go and come back and then return easily.. |
