Does anyone know if apartments are ever available, is it very exclusive, are all the residents wealthy, who lives there? Any information would be great. Thank you....

When you stay in MAGDEBURG (that's the capital of S.-A.) make sure to stay in this hotel: InterCityHotel Magdeburg.
It's right downtown, just across from the train station, with plenty of shopping and city life within walking distance. One of my best friends (SABRINA) has been working there for 10 years, now. Tell her Hello from the AUSWANDERER! :-)
I don't think you need to visit HALLE. There's really not much there.
Best is to stay off the Autobahn and take the backroads. They're all numbered with a B (=Bundesstrasse) in front of the number. You'll find lots of small towns with beautiful architecture and history.
P.S. I could give you more tips for vacationing in SACHSEN - that's where I'm from. But Germany is just beautiful, esp. in late summer.

I agree with the prior answerer, there are sooo many beautiful cities in Germany. But the cities in the western part of Germany are much more beautiful, especially in the late summer.
And to comment on the first answerer, it´s not Keneipe, but Kneipe, which is a pub!
