Where can you buy beer in Germany?

Supermarkets, always. Pubs, usually not for take away. Grocery stores, mostly.

The German counterpart to a "liquor store" is the "GetrÃ¤nkemarkt". They usually sell beer, liquor, but also soft drinks, and are specialized on selling them in larger quantities, but also for private persons. So if you want to buy one or two bottles of beer or wine, go to the supermarket; if you need more, like for a party, or for your personal use during a week, go to a GetrÃ¤nkemarkt.

The age restriction is 16 for wine and beer and 18 for liquor and cigarettes. Bars/pubs are unlimited from 18 on. -- Salespersons are required by law to not sell alcohol to obviously drunk people. Bars and pubs do age checks on suspicion, shops are required, but rarely do it if you look old enough.

"somebody" is right, you CAN get beer at McDonald's. They do not advertise it, but if you ask for it, you'll get some.

In Germany, you can find beer in almost every restaurant (including McDonaldÂ´s!), every grocery store, convenience store, and in beverage stores (like liquor stores but they also offer soft drinks and bottled water). The only thing I havenÂ´t seen are beer vending machines... and the minimum age to drink beer is 16. IÂ´ve never seen anyone IDd trying to buy a beer, but then again IÂ´ve never seen anyone who looked 12 years old trying to buy one either.

All the places you listed provide beer, aside from vending machines. Usually you can find just about any brand you like at the local "Kaufhalle" or grocery store.
The age restriction for beer is 16 and the age for liquor is 18. Good luck, be safe, and God bless.

Unlike the other two I am almost positive that the vending machines at my uni stocked beer - will have to ask friends who are still in town to check it out...

You can sell beer without a special license. But you need a license to serve it for drinking. But you will be punished if you sell beer to minors under 16 (exception special types with nearly no alcohol e g malt beer). Some years ago I have also seen vending machines.

You can buy beer in Germany every where. Groceries, gas stations and special stores selling only drinks with or without alcohol.

Beer is very important to all Germans and it can be bought from anywhere including schools.
