Where is Biesenger, Germany?

My grandfather fought in WWII and won the Bronze Star Award. on the plaque, it says it was in the vicinity of Biesenger Germany. However, I can't find Biesenger anywhere. Does anyone know if maybe the towns name was changed or if it is not part of Germany anymore?

Thanks

Are you sure the spelling is right? The closest approximation I can find is "Bissingen".

There are 4 places named Bissingen in Germany.

74321 Bietigheim-Bissingen
86657 Bissingen
73266 Bissingen an der Teck
89542 Herbrechtingen where a part of the city is named Bissingen

(The numbers are the postal codes.) All of the places are in southern Germany, in the state Baden-Württemberg to be exact.

American soldiers reached one of the Bissingen (86657 Bissingen, also known as Markt Bissingen) on April 23rd 1945. Check that date with what you know about your grandfather. Maybe try contacting some local through http://www.bissingen.de/. The village has only 1300 inhabitants, it shouldn't be too hard to find somebody who can tell you more about the history.

Hope this gives you a start on where to look for!

I don't KNOW - but I'd try Bessemer.
Good Luck! Bavaria, no doubt. Many thanks to your Grandfather. We owe him our freedom.

Is there a new rule that one must give "thumbs down" to people who are only trying to help? None of these answers are sarcastic or rude. Perhaps you know the real answer and are simply unwilling to share it?

Smudgeward
That's a fairly common surname, maybe it was in East Germany and the Russians liquidated it?
