The best breakfast used to be found in a highly unusual location, the Grossmarkt!!
The Grossmarkt is the wholesale food market off of Bonner Strasse and has a restaurant on the upper floor which used to serve the biggest & best breakfast from 3am onwards, all the while one could watch the wheeling and dealing downstairs.
The address is Marktstr. 10

Besides from the Grossmarkt, you find excellent breakfasts (German style) all over the place.

Café Krümel (that's crumbs to you) in Sülz does an excellent breakfast. A lot of choice, many fresh options, good value for money and a relaxed general atmosphere. When I was still living in Köln, we'd go there for breakfast quite often when we had guests staying over. The closest tram stations are Weyertal or Arnulfstraße depending on which line you are travelling on. Weyertal is right outside the Café.

As a general rule, look for all-you-can eat brunch offers from one of the bigger hotels. If you are staying at a hotel, check whether they offer such deal.

Below is a list with all restaurants in and around Cologne that offer breakfast and brunch.

The Mercure Hotel Cologne City at Severinstr. 199 directly in the city could be a good choice.

For a snack the Bagelstation at Friesenwall 16-18 looks good.

Unfortunately I really don't know though. I've been to Cologne several times, but I always either ate the breakfast provided at the hotel or hostel or bought bread, cheese and joghurt at the supermarket.

continental breakfast is ham..cheese..bread roll/other bread..sliced sausage..coffee..honey/marmalade/jam and a boiled egg........cereal is also served if requested.......this goes for about everywhere and a guest house/gast house is a nice environment to have breakfast in Germany
