The official Oktoberfest is in Munich, specifically in the Theresienweise in Munich. It is a specific festival. However there are other "Oktoberfests" and both beer and wine festivals in the fall throughout Germany. For some reason Germans love to party outdoors and they have lots of opportunities to do it.
There are outdoor fall festivals in Berlin, but not a beer festival per se that I'm aware of. There is a great "Festival of Lights" in October in Berlin, where they light up many of the iconic buildings in the city and have a big festival in the platz across from the Cathedral, just off Museumsinsel. I'll be in Berlin this year for part of that. |

There are two Octoberfests, one is in Munich (the original one) and the second is in (surprise) Las Vegas. (Damn Ami's, nothing is sacred to them, grrr.)
The Octoberfest in Munich is the largest folk festival in the world. There is beer, food, shows and rides (and way too many drunk tourists). Other cities in Germany and Austria have similar fests (minus the drunk tourists) on a smaller scale throughout the year. The Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart (which is about the same time as the Octoberfest as well as in April/May) is nearly as famous as the Octoberfest. |

Oktoberfest is in Munich of course there are some German communities making business with their own Oktoberfest but for all Oktoberfest is in Munich.

There's different spells of Oktoberfest in all areas of Germany at different times. The main event however only takes place in Munchen. 10/07/07 is the last day of Oktoberfest for 2007. |

Well its really big in southern Germany called Bavaria. Thats kinda like the heartland of Germany where they wear the liederhosen, and they ladies wear the tops with their assets flowing out. |
