There are good bakeries just about everywhere. For value for money, there are lots of good cafes in the Kreuzberg, Prenzlauerberg, Friedrichshain area.
Good shopping areas - Alexanderplatz, Kufürstendamm - go to KaDeWe near Wittenbergplatz.
For eating out:

shopping:

One good area for shopping / eating area is Kurfurstendamm (also known as Ku'damm) which has a lot of high-end and mid-end shopping and a lot of great places to eat. 2 other areas are Potsdammer Platz and Alexamderplatz.

Kreuzberg also has a lot of good eating options - but less shopping.

Try this website http://www.esplanadeberlin.com/city_of_berlin/shop.cfm
And I know Kadewe the best department store ever, and it has a cafeteria at the top (it's seven stories high).

Mr. KnowItAll
Berlin is an fun and very exciting place to go!!

EATING:

Kastanienallee is one of the best places to eat in Germany. I also would say that Hackescher Markt is also a great choice. Eaying out in Berlin, believe it or not, is very inexpensive, compared to many restaurants in NYC. There is many vegetarians in berlin, so I could imagine that there is many vegan restaurants in Berlin.

SHOPPING:

Galeria Kaufhof is an wonderful store to shop in at Berlin. Many other stores, including, Jokers Restseller, and Kaufhaus Des Westens, are also great, fantastic stores in Berlin. They are many flea markets in Berlin, and are very common. Mauerpark is one of the best flea markets that I have been to, personally. Arkonaplatz is a flea market located right next to Mauerpark, and only operates n either Sundays or Mondays, I forgot. Ku'Damm has a lot of shops in that street, around that specific area.

There is MANY things to do in Berlin. It is not boring and dumb, like you think. Once you walk in Berlin, you will realize how fun Berlin is.

MuFu
HA! I advise you the BOXHAGENERSTRASSE
i like the street quite much...there are so many restaurants
one is next to the other!

Forget Ku'Damm. That's touristy and expensive. Go to Kreuzberg, specifically Bergmannstreet and Oranienstreet for food and drink. Those are two of the single best hotspots of Berlin. Shopping, it depends what you're looking for. Expensive fashion (from brands you find in any other country), you could do Ku'Damm. For designer stuff and good sneakers, go to Hackescher Markt. Prenzlauerberg for thrift stores and pleasant sruprises.
