Definitely a superb hostel is the wombats which opened only last year.
I stayed there and was impressed because the rooms were very clean, the staff super nice and the whole building very modern and colorful. They have a bar on top of the building, very cool!

Try AO hostels. Rooms for 11 Euros a night, if you don't might sharing with 5 other people. The one near the Zoo is the most central, but there are two others in Berlin.
