Hamburg simply the best:

I suggest:

Schanzenviertel: nice bars, restaurants - left wing
St Pauli: worlds biggest red light district, also nice theaters, bars, restaurants (try "Freudenhaus"restaurant - nice German food)
St Georg Lange Reihe gay district many nice bars and restaurants I suggest COX and Sgroi
Altona Ottensen nice bars and restaurants, sophisticated

Many bars in Hamburg stay open 24hours - there is no curfew in this town that never sleeps- ENJOY HAMBURG

We went to Munich a few years ago and stayed in the city center near the Hard Rock and Haufbrau Haus. There were several clubs down there that you needed to be picked to get in. We were picked and had a great time and Crawled back to our apartment. If you are with friends any place will be fun.

Hamburg --- from classic operea to strip --- we have simply the best.
The thing is very simple Hamburg belongs to the richest cities of Europe all other German cities --- they say themselfes "we are second class" -- if I am very polite, lets say they are right. A very big US entertainment company has bought Color-Line-Arena and when their stars come to Europe, where they are --- Hamburg, Color-Line-Arena. There are two great Opera Houses in Europe number one Paris number two Hamburg. We have a lack in a classical consert hall, but that is changing by Elb-Philharmony soon.
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany
Heinz

Depends on what you mean by "Good Nightlife".

If you are looking for nachtbars (nightclubs), Hamburg is a good place. I've heard Berlin is also a good place.
