Where should I stay in Munich if I am going to the Christmas market?

I would like a budget hotel with comfortable beds and a private bathroom near the Marienplatz or train station. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Hotels which are near to Marienplatz are not really budget hotels.

etap hotels are cheap and very good if you are looking for a budget hotel: http://www.etaphotel.com/gb/hotel-3087-etap-hotel-muenchen-city-sued/index.shtml

I would recommend you to visit the Tollwood - its a festival and a very special christmas market. http://www.tollwood.de/english/winterfestival-2008/

One of the best cheap hostels is the Wombats City Hostel near Central Station (within walking distance to Marienplatz).

You will meet many other young budget travellers, the hotel is clean, the staff friendly.

You can choose between single bedrooms with private bathroom or with shared bathroom, or even a dormitory.

If you go to any hotel site it should give you results based on the distance from the city centre, which in Munich's case happens to be Marienplatz.

For hostels, you could try any of these - most of which are within a few stops of Marienplatz:

I have had friends stay at Hotel Royal, and they found it good: http://www.hotel-royal.de/pages/hotel
