München is a city distinctly different from the cities of the north, as the Prussian formalism seems to have missed Munich. The people of Munich genuinely like to party (Oktoberfest) and you should expect great food and lots of nightlife. In addition, München offers galleries, museums, opera houses and world class symphony orchestras, as balances to its more earthy side.

The city is a delight: compact and park-like, it offers much to see and do. In combination with the surrounding area, Munich offers some of the best castles in Germany.

Be sure to visit the Marienplatz, listen to the carillon play its tune and visit the Hofbräuhaus. The Church of Our Lady (the Frauenkirche) is considered a gothic masterpiece.

dont go to munich. go to frankfurt, its way more fun.

Sonne
there are many, depends on your interests
I like Muellersches Volksbad. A great swiming pool with a good cafeteria. Then the bars around Rosenheimer Platz, Englischer Garten, there is also a beergarden. thursdays: easy listening in "Soul City" City center.

I recommend getting a Germany guide book (like Fodor's) as there is so much to see & do in Munich. We took the walking trips in the Fodor's guide and saw so much from the glocks to the hofbrauhaus to museums to beer gartens to really beautiful churches. It's really the best way to go. It's a fabulous city and so so friendly - have fun!
