First 2 answers are good suggestions. Not far from the 'Glockenspiel' is the Market plaza where you can buy all kinds of food, fresh produce, flowers, etc. Also there is a variety of local and a few exotic food stands - great place to have lunch, a cool drink, and meet the locals. If you wander from there in direction back to the Main Train Station(Hauptbahnhof) you will see restaurants and bars. They should have their menu posted outside by the door somewhere, often with English translations. But, Munich is a very friendly city and used to tourists so even if the menu is in German you will have no problems. If the place takes credit cards they will have the Card symbol sticker on the door or window when you come in. Check your ATM card and you may be able to use it as a Check Card at many resturants and shops.
The 'Glockenspeil' is in the 'Rathaus' city hall tower. Near by is a large church, 'Frauenkirche'(name?) and it is interesting to see. It was heavily damaged by bombing(like most of Munich) but has been nicely restored. If you walk that main walking plaza back to the Main Train Station you will go by 2 or 3 other interesting churches. Also a lot of big stores!
Munich is a great city to walk around in! the English garden park is a great place to have a beer. The zoo, various museums, and of course the Oktober Fest! |

Further to previous answers I'd mention the "Asam" church and the Germany Museum. Don't forget to take a trip down to Füssen. There you get a bus for three miles to Neuschwanstein - King Ludwig's castle. |
