Depends, for history, you won't go wrong with Berlin, although Munich is also very nice and extremely clean with museums, zoos etc. Cologne has a really great Christmas market, the biggest in Germany (although every city will have one). I wouldn't really recommend Frankfurt as a tourist destination, I'd go to Munich or Berlin. |

hi
i know this is not asked in your question but i would recommend you Hamburg. It´s in the north of Germany at the Elbe. It is great for tourists with it´s amazing harbor, lots of musicals(lion king, dance of the vampires...) theathers, churches , the famous reperbahn, its over 30 museums and thousands of events going on everyday and the great nightlife. |

Germany havent interesting areas , but any way it depence of what you like , like example if u interessted for natural go to BAYERN ,if your intres is for partys and night life then go to HESSEN or to HAMBURG.
if you like a lake then you should go to the BODENSEE in FRIEDRISCHHAVEN its really cool . |

I definately would recommend Frankfurt! Beautiful city where you can visit so many different things: the famous skyscrapers on the one hand, the old part of the town (for example the old market square "Römer" and Old Sachsenhausen) on the other hand. I would recommend a boat trip in the evening. There are many different museums as well. And the Frankfurt Zoo is quite famous as well. Another advantage: as i assume that you will arrive via Frankfurt Airport this destination will be by far the most closest one. It takes only 15 minutes to get from the airport to the Frankfurt main station in the center of the city!

Berlin!
Actually: Any place but Frankfurt am Main. The city might grow on you if you live there, but there is very little of interest for the average tourist. The main reason to go there (if you are not a business traveller) is the airport. The city is alright if you got a some time to kill between 2 legs of transport, but otherwise don't bother.
What is nice about Frankfurt is the surrounding area. It is a wine growing region and if you come in September/October you can see spectacular scenery and haul home some great wines. Rent a car and drive around for a week or two, staying in small pensions, on farms and on wineyards. The cities Heidelberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber come to my mind as well as the so-called Romantic Road. Very popular with 50+ couples.
Berlin on the other hand is a very hip and very vibrant city, great for history yet with a young feeling to it. Lots of artists and a great underground scene, relatively cheap compared with other big cities like Cologne and Munich. If you want to party the night away or are interested in fashion, music and modern art and architecture, this is the city to be. |
