Which area of munich should i stay in for best access to sights and nightlife ?

As the question says i need to know which is the most convenient area of Munich to stay in for these things( it will be a youth hostel).Ideally we'd be able to get to the sights and the nightlife without having to take trains or taxis everywhere. Also we're going in the summer , are there any good open air pools or man made beaches nearby ?

You need to stay in the center, preferably near Hauptbahnhof, which is the area where most of the cheap hotels or hostels are located.

Most things can be reached on foot or conveniently with underground or night trams, which run every 30-60 minutes the whole night.

You can find cheap hostels here:

Munich has great open air pools (find all of them at this site:
http://www.inside-munich.com/outdoor-swimming-pool.html ) , but you can also go to the English garden and swim in the cold creek running through it or in the Isar river that has stone beaches very near to the city center.

And don't forget to visit one of our many beer gardens :-)

The Schwabing area of the city is the best place to stay. Have a great time, it's a fun city.
