Frankfurt is boring- there is nothing there really, unless you are going to visit local towns and villages while you stay there. I wouldn't be able to fill just one day with Frankfurt alone. Munich is situated in a lovely surrounding and this time of year would be perfect with the Oktoberfest. Every single person I have spoken to that has been to Berlin has raved about it. There is so much history there to see and there is the nightlife and the art galleries that can be expected of a capital city. Really, I lived not far from Frankfurt and I wouldn't recommend it for a "holiday" just maybe for a daytrip.

I am a world traveler and I have lived in germany for 5 years and I would say that munich is the best because it is a nice city but if you drive a little then you end up in Garmisch. It is surrounded by mountains and it is a nice little town and Absolutely beautiful. And the locals there are very nice.

I agree, don't visit Frankfurt, it's not very exciting.
Berlin is great, somewhat pretty, and has of course lots of history. You NEED to see Checkpoint Charly and the Lustgarten if you go there.
I can't tell you much about Munich, since I have never been there, but if you want to see Germanys most beautiful city - go see Hamburg instead!

Hamburg!
Great City!

And Christmas Season

Nürnberg,Lübeck,Munich,Berlin etc.

Munich rocks ... well, it did in the 1980s when I spent a winter there. I had a blast! Berlin is also supposed to be really good.

Depends on your desires. You see...Frankfurt was rebuilt after the World War in a modern fashion but the others were restored to their original beauty. If you have time don't limit yourself to the city you choose though. Get outside the city a couple of hours by train and see the more "real" Germany...the less touristy small towns. You will LOVE it!

berlin

I would say Berlin, NOT Munich.....

O Smart One
Munich is certainly the most interesting, but also the most expensive. Munich is very Bavarian, and traditional in Germany. It has a great old town, and is not as urban. You can also experience Bavarian culture along with German culture.

Hansi
My favorite would be Berlin out of those 3.

I'd say Frankfurt because of it's location and how it looks different from most German cities with it's towering skyscrapers. It's more to do in and around Frankfurt as Munich and Berlin are sort of isolated from other cities.
