I went to Germany for the first time in August. We had to go to Munich for some family business. We found an studio apartment rather than a hotel (expensive) that was nicely located near the subway and about 70% cheaper than a hotel.
The city is a beautiful, old city. We got around by subway. You can buy a 1, 3 or 5 day ticket and ride the subway and the trams all over the city. Just get on and ride. You show the ticket only when asked by a conductor. In two weeks, we didn't get asked. The easiest place to buy the ticket is the ticket and information booth (in the basement) in the main train station. A 3 day ticket was about 17 euro.
Places to see:
The Glocken-spiel in the old city hall.
The Olympic Tower in Olympic Park in northern Munich - you can see the whole city on a clear day
The English Garden slightly north of city center
The Chinese Tower in English Garden
The concentration camp at Dachau northwest of the city on the subway line
Churches - everywhere
The zoo just south of city center a couple of stop on the subway
Castles - we took a one day Gray Line tour - not cheap but definitely a must (the ticket office is on the east end of the main train station building
The food was great! Some of the best included:
pork knuckle and sauerkraut
bratwurst (a kind of sausage)
weiss beer light (maybe the best beer I've ever had)
goulash
rigatoni
I understand the summers can be hot and most places don't have air conditioning, but the temperature dropped to 8 degrees C (that's less than 50 degrees R) one night during our stay. Two days it was in the high 70's F. Be prepared for a little rain (not much while we were there but a little).
I hope this is helpful.

Have fun!!!
Go during the summer, it's cold over there like the Northeast U.S.
My two cents: When travelling in Europe, think cities, not countries. Everything is so close together you can see the best cities without staying in one country. Prague, Krakow, Vienna

sunshine & summertime

I've been multiple times. This past summer I went again and some of the most beautiful places are in Southern Germany, Bavaria is especially Nurnberg, the city is small but it contains a lot of history and culture. The food is good as well as the shopping. Summer is a good time to go, but it is humid. The fall and spring really depends but it snows in winter. Hope that helps. |

I have. You should go to Hamburg. Especially the Reperbahn |

It depends where you would like to go,
You have got the Dam-busters Dam, the Black-forest
Handover got a lovely zoo there.
Hamlin to see the pied piper
A trip down the Rhine
Detmold is a lovely town
Then if you like a little naughtiness you have to visit Hamburg and go for a creep on the reeperban |

It depends on what season you want to go in. October is always a good time to go. Can't beat heidleburg's beauty, Kiaserslaten is nice, pretty much any where is good. |

I was going to go backpacking around Europe a few years ago, but then there was some bombing on trains and whatnot, so I didn't go.
I want to go, too.
Otherwise, now I don't know. Sorry. |

Hi! I've been to Germany many years ago... I went only to Stuttgart to visit relatives and I didn'l like it too much. But I hear Berlin is beautiful and really interesting so you should go there. |

I lived there for several years when I was young. We were about an hour outside of Frankfurt and still to this day recall Germany being my favorite place to live of all the places I have been.
Munich is nice - it is the melting pot of Europe. You have people from all over who manage to settle there.
For a sobering experience (but a very interesting one) visit Dachau, one of the concentration camps.
River cruises on the Rhine and visiting the castles along the way is a great way to immerse yourself in the history
Koln (Cologne) is beautiful, Frankfurt is nice, Hamburg.. and on and on.. Honestly not sure if you can go wrong. Research a few places and see what tickles your fancy more. |

Germany is always beautiful... I have been there in Mid September and the weather was perfect for touring. I like many parts of the country, but Bavaria for old culture, Berlin for new culture and anywhere along the Rhine are lovely. |

I've been. July August in nice. The north west was least destroyed during the war so there's lots of nice castles and stuff, if you like that sort of thing. |

my mother in law lives there so I've been plenty of times! If you like a drink try weinfest - it the seasonal wine tasting event and it's massive.
We go to Alternach (excuse spelling - always had a few glasses when I've been there and not paid enough attention) It's beautiful, the area is full of large hills/mountains and covered in vines. The whole place is packed in October and every bar had free wine tasting to go with their associated vineyard.
It is also close to the nurburgring and maybe an hour from cologne where you can visit the dom (very large cathedral) which is a regular pilgrimage for catholics - and the town 's shopping facilities are a woman's dream.
Berlin is a great city as well, there are definitely lots of things to see eg Brandenburg gate (again excuse the possible mis spelling)
Hope that helps |
