It is in the Character of Germans, who usually, are inflexible.
All german products undergo serious QUALITY CONTROL.
There the inspectors give NO TOLLERANCE for products not appliying exactly to specifications.
Further no product will come on the market without careful planing and study.
Products must comply to DIN (D eutsche I ndustry N orm)
meaning German Industry standard. |

Besides the reasons given by cruiser and AWW I would like to add that the industry, specially if you are talking about production of machines as for example autos, engines, lifters, industrial machines, tractors or metal industries are controlled under regular basis by organizations as for example: TÜV (short for Technischer Überwachungs-Verein, Technical Monitoring Association in English) or the control authority for a determinated industry field.
For example in the copper production: The plates made of an specifical alloy and needed for an specifical industry may not leave the production hall until the TÜV had tested a sample of them and say and allows the use of them.
Furthermore the German system requires a certain education standard for the production workers, something called "Lehre" (apprenticeship). Normally a "Lehre" takes 3 years in a dual system (professional school and professional experience in a Mill, Factory or company) . After this 3 years you have to take an exam in the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, only if you approve your exam (written and oral) you are allowed to work in your field. |

The germans build the best and 'build to last'..........they hate rebuilding sh!!t twice....they are slow methodic perfectionist and put all their heart in the work they do. |

It ain´t called German engineering for nothing!!! Quality control is really controlled, not just supervised.
I moved here recently, and am so impressed with the way of life that it would be hard to leave and move back to the States-the products here are so great, and I would want to take my whole household with me. |

I am not so sure this is still true, it used to be 30-40 years ago. Made in Germany was a reassurance of the product's quality ("German perfection" was until some years ago the logo of Siemens in Greece). But today, with so many german brands produced anywhere in the world, I guess it is not the same. Besides, the competition is much stronger today - and of course , it depends on what products we're talking about. |
