just curious.....

especially in Munich are a lot of Arabs. They are there for medical treatment. For them it is cheap and good !

@ Rena. Sorry but your answer is wrong. That what you are on about goes back to the 1960's and got nothing to do with the reunification. I guess you are not a native German. Otherwise you would know that we have 3rd Generation Turks already in that country.

h
Arabs come to Germany mostly for four reasons.
1. Tourism to beat the heat.
2. business
3. medical treatment
4. studying

Arabs love Gemany and the German weather. I know people who have bought property in Bavaria.

Arab business men go on a business trips like any others worldwide. Germany and the UAE have close economic ties. The Hotel Atlantis in Dubai for example was build in Germany and then transported to Dubai. Many Arab car dealers go to Germany to buy and ship their cars.

Especially to Bonn and Munich Arabs go for medical treatment. Government hospitals have contracts with some German Hospitals/Doctors. For most oil producing countries medical treatment is for free aboard. The Government bears all costs for the patient and two more people, taxi from and to the hotel, the hotel itself, translator, etc. Arabs receive the same medical treatment as Germans who are private patients. (I will accompany a friend to Munich soon).

Few young Arabs go to Germany for studying. Mostly the language (Goethe Institut), otherwise the most students prefer to study in UK or USA.

Hope this answered your question. Please be aware that I answered for countries like UAE, Saudi, Bahrain etc. only, because I do not think that your question is adressed to the Turks living in Germany.

Take care.

I don't know that there are a lot of Arabs in Germany. There are a lot of Turks in Germany, though. The Turks came here as "Guest Workers" after WWII to help rebuild the country because so many German men were killed in the war. Many of them wanted to stay after they had finished their contracts and began new lives and families, which have continued to grow on for generations since the war.

The World Traveler
Most of those people are actually Turkish not Arab. They're there because Germany has a good social welfare program (they give poor families money). Also you get paid more than you would in the Middle East. There's probably more behind it but that's all I know from being there for a month.

love426
there are arabs but mostly Turks. Berlin-Kreuzberg has a lot. and Munich....mostly the large cities. und hamburg

It is because they had a shortage of workers and germany let them all come in cheap to help rebuild and take jobs. a lot stayed and now more want to come in.

Both previous answers are wrong.

After the collapse of the Berlin wall and unification. Germany had a shortage of workers. So they brought over workers from Eastern Europe and Turkey. These were supposed to be temporary workers but they never left. Over time they married more Turks and brought more family members into Germany therefore multiplying the Turkish communities numbers.

A lot of Turkish are unemployed and do live off of the benefits, but that is not the reason they come. It all dates back to a mistake made many years ago that politicians still fight over to this day.
